  1. So I’ve got this lawn mower and it’s great until it’s not! Mower my grass and it was a little wet and now it won’t turn on to cut. It lights up, self propels, and all that but it just won’t turn on to cut at all.

I was told to take the blade off and see if something was clogged but I cannot take the doggone blade off to save my life. I can’t turn that nut for anything in the world. I really need help with this. WD40 didn’t work.

  2. Super funny! Once the blade is loose, the nut turns the shaft, and won’t come off! It requires several hands, a very specific block of wood, or some combination of vise grips, clamps, wood blocks and swearing.

Really sincerely appreciate videos that show one tool and extremely simple operation when it’s not the case. It really ensures I have the proper time and tools to complete the job before I start!

  3. Ok Ryobi, so the 15 mm nut came off relatively easy until it got to the very head of the shaft. The shaft was not mushroomed or damaged. A blade lock was used instead of a block of wood they are equivalent.
The nut will not come past the final thread that is exposed and now the shaft rotates!
This 40vdc mower is a year old. All I wanted to do was take a few strokes with the hand file freshening the blade edge for use.
The only thing this mower is used for is to go around the perimeter of my structures, either before or after weed whacking with my Ryobi multi-tool.

    Advise!

BTW I purchased the model one notch above this for my son-in-law, who is not mechanically inclined and if he attempts this I can only see a disaster.

Please change the design to have two nuts, where the second nut protects the last thread end of the shaft.
Also provide a shaft isolator hole like you do on all your other power equipment where a pain can be placed in to prevent the shaft from rotating.

Okay here it is you've got a hold the square washer applying pressure toward the motor.
The square washer has two flat spots that lock the shaft.

  4. ATTENTION: DO NOT TORQUE THE BLADE NUT TO 300 LBS. YOU WILL SHRED THE WHITE VINYLE WASHER. MY TORQUE WRENCH ONLY GOES UP TO 150 LBS, AND THAT'S MORE THAN YOU NEED TO REBUILT A V8 CAR ENGINE…100 LBS IS ENOUGH!

  5. This information would be more useful if you could actually get replacement blades for the RY401170… and why do the RY401180 "20-inch" replacements blades only measure 19.25" tip-to-tip while the RY401170 20-inch mower blades are actually 20-inches?
