  1. Great if you want a bad back or bad knees. This machine and controls are far too low. It needs a stand and / or modification to the controls so you can use it at a sensible working height. The cutting mechanism also finishes short, so in certain instances you will need pull a partially split log apart. Needs a version 2 and possibly have the machine working vertically

  2. That was rather disingenuous sounding. Up to 150 splits? How many amps does the splitter draw so we can figure out how long we can run it until the battery is depleted. You didn’t mention that here and it isn’t listed on Home Depot’s website or your own. Amperage draw is usually listed with electronic devices, why haven’t you listed that yet? Are you waiting until enough people order one so they can find that out on their own?

  3. Splitting softwood pine in the video? Try it on some good hard Aussie peppermint gum …we dont burn pine in woodheaters. I'm happy to be proven wrong but a 40 ton petrol splitter will sometimes struggle with eucalypt (gum) tree.

  4. I had the Ryobi electric 5 ton splitter, it was useless and returned. I was only using it to split my already firewood splits into smaller splits, and couldn't even handle that.

  5. Can anyone explain to me why a tool with more plastic, no internal combustion engine, no hydraulics, etc is so expensive? I mean are we paying for something more than just the novelty of using a battery? Seriously. This thing is about $1000 and delivers 12 tons of force. Harbor Freight's is about $1000 and delivers 20 tons of force.

If you're trying to be a "save the planet" company, maybe you should stop jacking the prices so high. You don't replace gas engines by making people choke on the sticker price. I understand Californians are being forced to buy this stuff but the rest of us aren't. I want battery powered yard tools but not at these prices.

  6. I’ve had my ryobi 4 ton splitter for over 20 years and I’ve split logs up over 22in across. For everyone saying u wouldn’t bend over and use it, i def agree which is why I usually put mine on my tailgate, split the log and toss it straight into truck bed. 12 ton is enough power to split a freshly cut tree.

  7. Clearly Ryobi didn't think much about the operator ergonomics. I won't be splitting wood with that while squatting or on my knees. Might be fine of a resplitter, but not as a primary splitter of firewood rounds.

  8. Lol, I've never seen a 80cc gas splitter. The only ones I've seen/used had 5hp. Granted, hp and torque aren't the same thing and electric motors can make good torque but I don't see any new englanders using this thing to split their firewood. I mean, 150 splits per charge and only 10" diameter log? Heck, we used to throw in 10" logs into the stove for overnight burning. I'm sure someone with ryobi gear, a small cabin, with seasoned wood who has a small stove or fire pit could make use of it but that seems like a small market. Personally, I don't see why they didn't use the electric motor to run a hydraulic pump.

  9. 10” diameter for a log seems puny. I don’t own a splitter, but I have several friends with them and the gas splitters don’t seem to care about the diameter. I get length, and a chainsaw will handle that. The enticing thing about a splitter is not having to use an axe or wedge and sledge to do it yourself. I’m in the PNW and routinely deal with large trees

  10. Interested to see how the splitter reacts when you give it a log that's too big. (that ALWAYS happens when splitting).

  11. 12 tons may be great for well seasoned logs but how about wet unseasoned logs, I sometimes like to split the unseasoned logs as soon as a tree gets cut down to shorten the seasoning time.
