The RYOBI Whole Stud Detector (ESF5002) is designed with multiple LED’s to indicate the full width of the stud, not just an edge or center. The one-handed operation provides an easy to use experience every time. The Auto Depth Scan Technology determines the thickness of the wall up to 1-1/2″ thick to accurately identify wood and metal studs.

Works a treat, thank Ryobi I should have bought one year’s ago!!
I have a technical question.
On some walls, the stud finder works perfectly. However, on a couple of walls, it just keeps flashing, even though I know I am well away from a stud.
This happens in a couple of places.
Question: Is the stud finder mistaking insulation for stud and giving some kind of error reading?
Mine is blinking the whole time! Literally working 5 mins ago and now just flashing
Serious lost opportunity, making this thing too wide to slip into the LINK system. 🤦♂️
Why does it just keep flashing when trying to calibrate it?
Wait, so how do you differentiate between wood and metal? 😂
Mine won't stop flashing and I've tried 3 sets of new batteries
came here to find out if i should buy this on ebay, after looking at the comments here, the answer is no. lol
Absolutely terrible product!! Does not work!!! Waste of money!!!!
Does the American company Franklin design these? If so, why so many negative reviews?
Apparently my entire wall is one big stud! The more you know 🙄
This unit has very poor performance on insulated exterior walls – I had much higher hopes for something new/better.
Studdy buddy
Most useless tool I’ve ever bought ❤
It works fine, follow instructions and it will work just fine…
A complete waste of time. There are many bad reviews below and I was foolish enough not to read them before buying this completely ineffective and confusing tool.
How does it detect other pipes to avoid drilling into a pipe?
I have yet to find a stud finder that works.
Worst $30 I’ve ever spent… get your ** together Ryobi
Fun discovery! It refused to calibrate on drywall covered with a thin layer of paint or plaster. On 'naked' uncovered drywall it calibrated and detected fine. Returned to Home Depot.
Works wonders for me
This was a total waste of money.
My wife keeps using it to see if it really finds studs😂
Not a good one, tried, shows stud in hollow wall as well, not worth for money
I love rioby tools but it seems if you guys are using zircon hardware to build this one because it does the same thing zircon does , alot of false alarms , i jist use studdy buddy ,
Don’t buy it. It doesn’t really do the work.
It doesn't work I drilled into a water pipe thank you ryobi I bought the stud finder for $39 end up spending $1,500 on Plumbing
I get a red light around the stud marker button constantly. I even held it against a door same thing
Thanks for This. Got one from BUNNINGS 🇦🇺.
This is the worst, thing just blinks and blinks.
Mine is just a few months old and its already broken… just blinks and nothing else
Turns out my entire wall is a stud. Thanks ryobi!
Is there a way to determine if it detected a wood or metal stud?
Mine won’t stopping flashing no matter where I put it
What's the red flashing LED's about?
Am I supposed to drill where my stud spot marker etch made the dent? Coz I did and it went straight through…
uhh, it just keeps blinking 3 times. I follow the instructions, calibrate it, and then the instant i start moving it along the wall it blinks 3 times. There's no way to prevent it – it happens every single time.
Does it detect voltage?
No ac detection? Hard pass
So confused with the finding, I find the centre of the stud and marked there did second time still the centre was there, scanned third time same place before putting nail, it flash Red says there is live wire?.. so confusing. Did again same.. wasted my time..
Nah you can get it at bunnings too mate
40 secs ago posted, but a comment 2 months ago? am i stupid?
I’m confused. Mine flashes repeatedly on the whole wall, which is confusing, because I already have a tv on that wall so clearly there is a stud there somewhere.
